In July 2018, a series of vegetation, bird and wildlife use surveys were conducted along the Moose Mountain Cross Country Ski Trails, as well as in the forests surrounding the trails, which included a proposed mining development area. The Klondike Active Transport and Trails Society (KATTS) requested the completion of a systematic inventory of the natural history of the trail system that would result in a publicly available report, as well as in recommendations for the protection of potentially sensitive areas from planned industrial development. The goal of this project was to help ensure the protection of local trails and sensitive areas, and to help maintain a sustainable public and social benefit.
